Allstar Weekend

On May 12th, I had the lovely opportunity to drive to Los Angeles with my good friends Jaci and Alyssa for a sold out, acoustic set for the band Allstar Weekend. This acoustic set was not my first Allstar encounter. I first saw they band during their "All They Way" tour, where they had two stops in Arizona on January 31st and February 1st of this year. In all honesty, when I first bought my tickets, I didn't even know one Allstar Weekend song. Now after attending both of those concerts, it is safe to say I am a big fan.
A cool thing about the Arizona concerts was that I was able to go to sound check and meet the band before the show in the evening. With most meet and greets I had been to previous, I barely had a couple minutes to get a quick picture and if I was lucky a hug from whoever I was meeting. Those meet and greets and clearly not glamorous (but still worth every second). So when I was about to meet Allstar, my expectations where blown away as they were so sincere with everyone they met. They took time to get your name, take pictures, get a signed poster, and best of all it was not rushed like everything else I had experienced previous. I think that is why I like the band so much.  Actually I think lead singer Zach would rather be anywhere in the world than posing for pictures, but props for him for smiling through it. Anyways, both of those concerts were great and after each show they took the time to come out and get pictures with as many fans as possible. As always, here are a few pictures from the festivities. Please disregard all my awkwardness.

                                                         SO MUCH AWKWARDNESS.

Alrighty then, on to more recent shenanigans. The acoustic set in California was of course wonderful. It was cool to be able to hear all the songs that I have grown to love played acoustically and see the band perform in a new way. The highlight of the night for me, was when they had a couple violinist and a cellist join them on stage. It was so beautiful! Then again having played the cello my whole life, they could have just shown a picture of a cello and that would have probably been my favorite part. I just feel like the band is true to themselves and do what will make them happy which is hard to find these days. The whole thing was definitely worth it and I'm so happy I could go! I didn't take much pictures from the show, but here are a couple. I still need to get a picture with the drummer Michael! I wish I had an explanation for why it looks like I'm about to kill Zach, but I have nothing.

Taylor Swift

Alright, you will have to bear with me as I share another flash back moment. In my defense, I did have two concerts lined up but I had to cancel because I have something BIG coming up – be prepared. Anyways, I of course had to reminisce about my home girl Taylor Swift.

On October 21st, Haylee Hoffman and I decided to drive down to the Jobing.com Arena in Glendale where Taylor was performing for two nights in hopes of catching a glimpse of her even though we didn’t have tickets. Once we got there, we found out the radio station was giving away tickets at the arena and I had a good feeling about it; I just knew we were going to win tickets. Well, I was wrong; sadly we did not win ANYTHING and it was very frustrating. Right before the show began, the radio station gave away their last pair and we did not know what to do because we didn't want to go home empty handed. We saw a couple of girls who won tickets earlier in the evening and Haylee decided she was going to ask them for their other tickets. I was so impressed as she marched right up to those girls and politely asked what they were doing with their other seats. The girls turned out to be the nicest people ever! They were so sweet and said we could have their seats for free. Oh, did I forget to mention the seats were row 7? Yep, we got row seven seats, practically touching Taylor. It was incredible!

Being a huge Taylor Swift fan, I had already purchased tickets months before for her second night in Arizona on October 22nd with my friend Haley Brown. While the seats my second night were not nearly as close, having the chance to see her show again was so amazing. Also seeing the show from a new perspective awesome because I got a full view of how the theatrics came together. Swift is an exceptional performer and really blew me away. Of all the concerts I’ve been able to see, nothing compares to her show. Taylor Swift you have my respect.

Swift's music video for her song "Sparks Fly" gives the perfect glimpse of her concert, check it out!

Ian Somerhalder

Flashback moment- Meeting Ian Somerhalder:
On January 11th, I had the unbelievable experience of attending the 2012 People’s Choice Awards hosted by Kaley Cuoco. I am still in awe that I was in the same room as so many celebrities that I adore. Stars from Betty White to Robert Pattinson to Adam Levine filled the audience. It was all I could do to not run up to them and beg to be best friends with me! But before the show starts, everyone in the audience is given strict rules, and of course, we were not allowed to approach the “talent”. Being a rule follower, I had no intentions of breaking any rules and getting kicked out until I saw the cast of The Vampire Diaries. When they walked to their seats in the front row, I about passed out and was determined to meet them: I love love love The Vampire Diaries! So during a commercial break, I was shaking but I managed to walk right passed security without being stopped to where the cast was sitting. I went straight to Ian Somerhalder, who plays Damon in the show. With all my courage, I stuck my hand out and mumbled out that I was a huge fan and I loved his character. He shook my hand back, placed his other hand on my arm, and told me he was so happy to meet me and thanks for watching the show. We gazed into each other's eyes for what seemed like an eternity and I had never been happier... Until it was announced that commercial break was over and I had to run back to my seat. On my way back, Nina Dobrev (Elena) smiled at me - she is gorgeous! Unfortunately, my main man Paul Wesley was no where to be found so I couldn't stalk him. All in all, it was a night to be remembered.

I've said it before and I will say it again, Ian Somerhalder's blue eyes pierced my soul.

Hunger Games Mall Tour

Honestly, I am still in disbelief at what happened at the Arizona stop for the Hunger Games Mall Tour. On March 7, I was so excited because Liam Hemsworth, Jack Quaid, Dayo Okeniyi, and Leven Rambin stopped in Scottsdale for a Q&A event and meet and greet promoting their upcoming movie The Hunger Games which hits theaters March 23, 2012. After I finished my morning classes, I drove over to Scottsdale Fashion Square to get passes. To my dismay the meet and greet passes had already sold out, but I was still able to get Q&A wristbands. Later that evening, I returned with my cousin but the mall was packed and we were in the very back of the crowd and we couldn't see a thing. I started chatting with one of Johnjay and Rich's intern, I told her my name she asked if I had won a prize because my name was on a list. Well I didn't win a prize but I followed her up to the front to discover my name was on a list for the meet and greet. Next thing I know I am running across the mall with the event staff trying to see if I could still get into the meet and greet. Amazingly enough I was able to get in and I was the very last person in line! Once I finally got to meet the cast, they told me they had been waiting for me. I think it was because I was last in line, but I just like to pretend they love me and we are best friends now. Anyways the cast was so nice and I still can't believe that my name was just on the list. This just goes to show that being friendly really pays off. Pictures weren't allowed but here are a couple from the day:

Just another day in the life of Skyler Sitton.

Carly Rae Jepsen

On March 1st, I was lucky enough to hang out with the one and only Carly Rae Jepsen. Yes, my new favorite Canadian was in Phoenix hanging at the Kiss FM studio during the Johnjay and Rich morning show. After driving down there that morning, Johnjay invited me up to meet Carly and hang with them while they interviewed her. The whole experience was amazing! Below is a video of Carly performing her song Call Me Maybe.

Three fun facts about Carly Rae Jepsen:
1. She was the first artist signed to Justin Bieber and Scooter Braun's label called Schoolboy Records
2. She placed 3rd in the fifth season of Canadian Idol
3. Her second album Curiosity was this Valentines Day - buy it!

Check out Johnjay and Rich's website for the full interview and performance: http://johnjayandrich.1047kissfm.com/pages/on-the-show-post.php?feed=285147&article=9863336

fun.

I'm proud to say my first blog post goes to worthy news. A couple weeks ago, I heard that one of my favorite bands, fun., was coming to Arizona for a free concert at Zia Records to promote their new album "Some Nights" which was released on February 21. To my excitement I discovered that the radio station 101.5 Jamz was giving away exclusive passes to hang out with fun. before their show at Zia Records. Never have I been so determined to win anything, I sat on my couch next to the radio for nearly two hours waiting for the cue to call in. Full of frustration, I found the DJ giving away the tickets Twitter name and tweeted him. To make a long story short, the DJ tweeted me back saying he had passes for me! That is proof right there that hard work pays off.
The next day, my best friend Rachel and I went to the radio station to hang out with the band. What I love most about fun. is that they are genuine people. Along with about 15 other people, we ate pizza, watched fun. being interviewed, played a cup game, chatted with the band, and took pictures. It was an awesome experience. Later that evening in Chandler, the band played to a packed Zia Records and signed autographs. Though this is my fourth time seeing the band perform, I will never cease to be amazed at the lead singer Nate Ruess' voice. I honestly cannot describe how beautiful and unique his voice is when he sings. Though it seems impossible, his voice sounds better in person. He really needs more recognition for his talent. Of course the band played an awesome set which included songs from both their new album but their last album.

If you have not heard of the band fun., it is never to late to hear good music. Below is the band's smash hit "We Are Young" featuring Janell Monae which was covered on Glee and has received tremendous success. Check them out, the world needs more bands like fun..
Band members include: lead singer Nate Ruess (AZ Native, represent), guitar and vocals Jack Antonoff (Also in the incredible band Steel Train), and Andrew Dost who plays to many instruments to count and sings (I have a crush on him and that is the most important).
Make sure to check them out on Twitter: https://twitter.com/#!/OurNameIsFun
And be sure to buy their new album, it is fantastic!
